Tunnel Tree Traditional Cache
pinksweatshirt: With great sadness - it appears that I must archive this awesome cache! Due to this springs unusually heavy rain and snowmelt, the course of Meeks Run has diverted to run right up to and into this tree. The cache has been washed away and it is entirely too difficult to get to this location now. Thanks to everyone who has ventured to get this cache and favorited it! There are still many more caches in Hollow Oak Montour Woods that are out there ready to be found!

Located in the Montour Woods Conservation Area - a part of the Hollow Oak Land Trust (www.hollowoak.org) - this area was acquired through two parcels in 2005 and 2009. It extends over 96 acres from Meeks Run Conservation area along Montour Run to the Frank A. Santucci Conservation Area. Beware of ticks - they are bad here! Sign says 'hunting by special permission" - I saw a hunters blind here. USE CAUTION AND WEAR ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASON!!
Cache is a 30 cal ammo can. Parking area is available at the posted parking coords off Hassam Road. Resist the urge to bushwhack - the trail makes it a nice hike which includes 2 stream crossings. Use caution during high water and icy conditions!! I wonder what happened to this old giant? It appears to have been burned from the inside! Difficulty rating bumped up simply due to the length of the hike - approx 1/2 mile one way - then you have to come back! 2014 UPDATE! New improvements in the area have expanded the parking and made the trails more defined! Sign posts are placed at most trail intersections. This cache is accessed from the Meeks Run Trail.
