DANÇA DOS ESPADARTES
PT:

It has a very elongated rostrum as a sword, a black or very dark brown back and the belly is silvery-white. The swordfish may reach 4.5 m in length and a weight of 540 kg. It is a being pelagic, ie, occurs up to 800 m deep in tropical and temperate ocean waters.
Sesimbra, in the '60s, became known worldwide as a major sports center for coarse fishing, thanks to the possibility to catch large specimens of this fish during the day, which did not happen elsewhere. Today, swordfish is part of its food culture, and a festival devoted to him takes place every year.
Dance of Swordfish
Hans Varela and Carlos Bajouca honoured this animal species through a stone sculpture called "Dance of the Swordfish," opened at the Sampaio roundabout in May 2008.
This cache seeks to enshrine this powerful and graceful animal, which contributed greatly to the socio-economic development of the Sesimbra village.
Being our first cache, it is also a tribute to geocachers friends responsible for the beginning of our geoadventure. It contains only one notebook, so you should bring your writing materials. This is a busy place so you must be careful when crossing the street. We recommend doing it off hours of car moving. The cache is not on the stones but it is protected from the cold and rain, in perfect symbiosis with the local community.
