Geocache Description:

This geocache is located on a firelane that runs along the North Boundary of Highlands Hammock State Park. The North Boundary can be accessed by taking firelanes North from North Branch. North Branch runs through the highlands of the park and is part of the bike trail. This road is also often walked or biked by visitors, as it is NOT accessible by vehicle. BYOP. Do NOT attempt this cache if you do not like sugar sand.

Some birds are not native to their resident areas. The cattle egret, for examples is believed to have been caught up in high winds or maybe the eyes of hurricanes which brought them to North America from Africa. These are the small white egret found in pastures with the cattle, riding on their backs to pick off insects and fleas, or following tractors mowing or cultivating the ground. They have a light brown set of feathers on their heads with distinguish them from egrets that are native.


This geocache is placed in Highlands Hammock State Park with the permission of park management. All locations must be approved by the Volunteer Geocache Coordinator Sarah Straub (DTISarah@gmail.com) and adhere to the guidelines set by the park for geocache placement.

Vehicles are not permitted to park on any roadway within the park boundary. All vehicles must park within designated parking areas. The park is open from 8:00AM until sundown, 365 days a year. The admission fees are as follows: $6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. Camping is available in the park as well.
