"Cache Trail California"
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
Welcome to the Cache Trail California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
We noticed this road with very few caches, and we couldn’t just leave it alone, even though calling it a “desert highway” might be sort of a stretch. This shortcut to Ocotillo Wells only takes about 5 times as long as driving around on the pavement, but isn’t it nice to have some change of scenery. The dirt road roughly follows pole lines and railroad tracks, with a couple of side trips into sandy washes, side trips not recommended unless you have good 4WD.
