Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches based around Ditton Park and the surrounding area. The caches are placed along National Route 61 of the National Cycle Network and roads, and are part of a circuit. They also link up with the Upton Park series if you have the extra time to take on that loop too!

Please note that the first 5 caches in the series are placed within the park, and the gates are locked between 6pm and 6am daily.

The total distance is approximately 3 miles. You will need to collect all of the letters and numbers from number 1 to 10 in the series to enable you to solve the final location for this mystery cache. I recommend parking along Cedar Way and doing the circuit in number order (details are on the first cache page).

Ditton Park was part of the Manor of Ditton and once belonged to the crown in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It then belonged to Sir Ralph Winwood who in turn passed it to Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu, through marriage.

The present Ditton Park House (known locally as Ditton Castle) was built around 1500, but was badly damaged by fire in 1812. In 1917 the property was taken over for the Admiralty Compass Observatory, which used the house and its immediate grounds until it was sold to a software company in the 1990s.

In 1920 the park started to be used for radio research and these activities eventually lead to the formation of the Radio Research Station. It was here in 1935 that the idea for the development of British Radar defense system was conceived.

Using the numbers you have collected, the calculation for final location is -

N 51° G(I-C).E(H-A)(F-D)
W 000°(C+F)(A-D).F(J-G)(B-H)

Checksum for the bonus coordinates = 47

This cache has been muggled several times so I have changed the clip-lock box for a camouflaged tub of about 250ml. It is large enough for most TB's.
