Geocache Description:

This location is historically significant and has been cache-less for some time now.  It is an easy smiley and be sure to read the information on the historical marker. This monument is in the middle of a neighborhood so please search for this one only in the daylight.

Union General James B. McPherson was shot and killed by Confederate forces at this location.  The Confederates were attempting to capture him and he chose to turn his horse and ride away from them.  He was shot in the back and died of his wounds.  This occurred during the Battle of Atlanta on July 22, 1864 which yielded a key Union victory.

If you are a history buff, visit the numerous historical markers throughout Atlanta and Georgia marking the progression of the Union army's victories.
