I Målilla-Gårdveda kyrka finns en orgel av Sven Nordström. Den anses vara en av Sveriges största orgelklenoder.
Kyrkan byggdes år 1820-1822. Innan dess hade Målilla och Gårdveda en kyrka vardera. Eftersom det var endast 2,5 km mellan de båda kyrkorna beslutades att en gemensam kyrka skulle uppföras i Målilla. De gamla kyrkorna revs och där Gårdveda kyrka en gång stod finns idag ett kapell och ett minneskors. Församlingen sparade i 24 år för att bekosta inköpet av en orgel till den nya kyrkan. Orgeln byggdes av Sven Nordström och kom att anses som en av Sveriges största orgelklenoder. På kyrkogården finns en gravhäll över Hans Drake af Hagelsrum (d.1653), landshövding och ståthållare på Narva och hans maka Helena Snakenborg, född Bååt (1590-1660 ). I kyrkan finns begravningsvapen efter bl.a. Gustaf Drake af Hagelsrum (1634-84 ) som bedrev sjöröveri på Östersjön under åren 1657-62 och som är förebilden för Viktor Rydbergs "Fribrytaren på Östersjön".
