A traditional small cache outside of a steam train museum. A cache for all ages.
This piece of history, situated in our hometown, will take most people on a trip down memory lane.
The main aim of this cache is to co-memorate the iconic steam train that is no longer running from this station. The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe used to be a tourist attraction when it was still running on the beautiful scenic route between George and Knysna, stopping at all the stations in between. Due to damage to the tracks and a lack of funding to repair the railway, the Choo-Tjoe is no longer in operation.
This museum hosts a variety of 13 steam locomotives, including a coach from the Royal Train of 1947, Paul Kruger's coach and private saloons and many more. There are also a whole room full off scale model trains running through a simulation of the surrounding countryside. This is my favourite part of the museum, as Timone used to be one of the "builders" of this simulation of reality. There is also a display of old cars to be seen inside the building.
Please keep in mind that GPS accuracy will not be very good as there are too much metal around in various forms.
Entrance fee is R20.00 for Adults and R10.00 for children under 12 years.
