A quick roadside cache. The cache is small and magnetic.
Ballyorgan is on many fine walking trails including the Ballyhoura Way and the Molanna Loop. These routes may be used to walk to the Greenwood or Keale river caches.
Ballyorgan was the trade village for the nearby Oliver estate which stretched to 20,000 acres. Castleoliver was built in 1845 as a Scottish Baronial Castle. It remained in the family until 1978 and counted Lola Montez as one of its more colourful characters. Between 1978 and 1998 it was open to vandals who, in turn, opened it to the weather. It was then lovingly restored and is now avaliable to rent for weddings and other functions.
Ballyorgan's association with the palatines started in 1759 when 50 families settled in the area. They had earlier left the Rheinish Palatine in Germany to escape religious persecution. Local palatine names include Steep and Mee. The Village Inn is owned by a member of the Mee family.
