Geocache Description:

A cache close to the summit of Scolty Hill, with wonderful views in all directions.

This cache is near the summit of Scolty Hill. There is an official car park sign-posted from Banchory, if you cross the bridge South over the Dee. Cost is £2 per car for the whole day. From the car park, head West along the trail. There is an information sign at the start of the trail which shows the various trails and paths in the area. Take your pick from those, and head towards the top of the hill. Long, shallow ascent, or short steep ascent. You choose, but it's all up! You can expect to take around 45 minutes to ascend Scolty from the car park.
The summit of Scolty is dominated by the Memorial to General Burnett, a 20m tower with a viewing platform at the top. The tower was originally built in 1840, and was restored to it's present condition in 1992. You can ascend the spiral stairs to the viewing platform. Scolty Hill is 299m high and the views from the top of the Tower are superb in every direction: eastwards down the Dee Valley towards Aberdeen and the sea, westwards to Morven, Mount Keen and Lochnagar, northwards towards Hill of Fare and Bennachie and southwards to Kerloch, Clachnaben and Mount Battock.
The cache is a few metres off the summit to the South East.
