Geocache Description:

A quick visit to a mostly overlooked, but very picturesque hamlet. A brief drive off a main artery, followed by a history lesson and a short walk. No crazy thorns or thistles but sensible shoes are a must.

First surveyed by Asa Townsend in the early 1800s Hungry Hollow is one of the oldest settlements in the former West William Township. It also has a unique history related to its name.
More sleepy than hungry these days, it is a very picturesque hamlet bestriding the Ausable River.
The listed coordinates will bring you to an information board placed by the municipality of North Middlesex. Here you will find explained the story behind the name as well as the history of the formerly bustling business location.
The board also contains a picture of the old Hungry Hollow bridge. Apparently in its day, the bridge saw many a bad accident as 'well lubricated' drivers would come down the hill at speed and fail to negotiate the turn on the other side.
The vantage point of the photographer is where you need to head to next.
The bridge is long gone, but the stone pilings remain and are easily visible on either side of the river.
From there you will see a well worn path down to the river bank. A popular spot for fishermen, especially when the rainbow trout and salmon are running. You are now entering private property but don't worry, the landowner is friendly and allows all to come and fish as long as they don't leave a mess. He was present when the cache was placed.

To determine the final coordinates;
  1.  Reverse the last three digits of the year that Asa Townsend first surveyed the area and add that number to the last three digits of the North coordinate.
  2. Subtract 165 from the number of acres that Asa was given to settle and then add the difference to the last three digits of the West coordinate.
The cache container is a round plastic container with a screw-on lid approximately 2.5 inches in diameter.
Originallly it contained a FTF trinket and a couple of travel bugs along with the log sheet.
