This is a private war memorial erected by the AMIEU (Australian Meat Industry Employees Union) to honour workmates and comrades who fought in the Second World War (1939-1945) as part of the AMF (Australian Military Forces), the AIF (Australian Imperial Forces), the RAN (Royal Australian Navy) and the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force). It is also a tribute to John Curtin, the war-time Australian Prime Minister who died in office the fifth day of July 1945, as well as a tribute to General Douglas MacArthur, USA Commander in Chief.

It has been erected as a historical record of local participation and sacrifice in war.

The monument was originally situated on the Emu Park/Lakes Creek Rd closer to the city centre of Rockhampton but due to the widening of the road the memorial was moved to the current location in 2008.

For latitude co-ordinates.
1. The number of names of the AMF (this will give you the º)
2. Subtract 1 from the previous number (these are the first 2 digits of 5 needed)
3. The year the war ended. Subtract 1851. (these are the 3rd and 4th digits needed)
4. Total number of letters in the only member of the AMF whos last name begins with the letter 'R'? (This is the final digit needed for latitude)

For longitude co-ordinates.
1.The total number of service personnel honoured. Then add 86. (This will give you the º)
2. The number of R.A.A.F.'s + the number of A.I.F.'s. Subtract the period of the war. (this will give you the first 2 of 5 digits needed)
3. How many letters are in the last name of the person W.E. (d)
4. Add the numbers of the date John Curtin died (ie. d+m+y+y+y+y). Multiply x 2 and then add 35 (this will give you the final 2 digits needed for longitude)
