A short walk along a wooden boardwalk just above bog level. The cache is a plastic box. Please do not walk off the boardwalk. Official car park at N52° 21.651' W8° 21.189' (With thanks to curus.lulus)
This is a lowland raised bog, which has a boardwalk with wooden seating and information signboards. This nature reserve has been developed by Ballylanders gun club and is open all year round.
Griston Bog Outdoor Classroom opened in September 2012 as a purpose built education facility which brings 1000s of years of Bog History to life. It includes a bird feeding station and birdhide, insect hotel and pond-dipping facility.
Up to 75 bird species have been seen in the bog, including Sedge Warbler, Willow Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler, Whitethroat, Cuckoo, Common Sandpiper, Merlin, Sparrowhawk and Hen Harrier. Common Darter dragonflies often rest on the railings. Tussocky Ling Heather is dominant on this bog, with tussocks of Hare’s-tail Cottongrass and scattered plants of Royal Fern. Signboards on the platform show pictures of the species found here.
