North To Nelson!
The Great Northern Rail Trail extends from Salmo, past Nelson, and on to Troup, following the former Nelson and Fort Sheppard railway. The rail bed is level (more or less), but some portions of it are better traveled than others, so the ground varies from groomed gravel to overgrown weeds. It is a great trail for walking or cycling, and in the winter, X-country skiing or snowshoeing.
Of course many many gallons of fuel would have been eaten up during the running of this line; however, we never came across any of the fuel tanks that would have fed the appetite!
