Balayang: ### Cache Maintenance Visit Required please.###
This geocache has been brought to my attention as needing an Owner Maintenance visit, as the logs indicate that it is most likely missing, or else some other problem exists with the cache. See the GCHQ Health Score process.
It certainly needs to be checked by the Cache Owner.

The cache owner needs to:

  • Take action to restore the cache or address issues such as correcting the D/T rating, or the posted coordinates.
  • Re-enable the cache by posting an Enable log
  • Post an Owner Maintenance log to advise what has been done and to clear any Needs Maintenance attribute that is present.

Otherwise :
* Post a Note Log to request more time if necessary or provide other information.
**Do not use an Owner Maintenance log for this. That is for use only when you actually do something to repair the cache.

Alternatively:

  • Archive the cache and remove any remaining geo-litter from the site.

In the meantime, I've temporarily disabled the cache page to await owner action by GuilfordFlag and to take it off the playing board to prevent further inconvenience to our Geocaching Community.

Please see the maintenance section of the Geocache Hiding Guidelines.

I will check back in 30 days to see that action has been taken by the CO.
If nothing has happened, I will conclude that the cache has been abandoned, and, unfortunately, I will need to Archive this cache.
Caches archived because of lack of maintenance/abandonment will not be unarchived.

The Geocaching Community needs to have a degree of certainty that a cache is in good condition and waiting to be found, and the CO has a responsibility to maintain their caches.

Please see my profile page for additional information.
Thank you

Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates! The coordinates will take you to a parking lot where you can see a Japanese WW2 submarine.
To find the cache, we are going to learn a little bit about submarine history. The final location will take you to a place where you can see all the submarines in the harbor below.

Submarines have changed modern warfare as we know it. Officially entering US service in 1900, they really came of age during World War 2. Following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the only major ships the US had in the Pacific were aircraft carriers. Fearing the loss of these capital ships, submarines were used to do the dirty work. The Navy ordered them to attack any ship flying the Japanese flag, and they did. Conservative estimates say that over half of Japanese ships sunk were submarines.

The lessons of World War 2 were not forgotten. The United States and the Soviet Union built hundreds of submarines to silently patrol the seas. The invention of nuclear power allowed submarines to go several weeks underwater instead of only hours. Today, US submarines patrol the far reaches of the globe, gathering military intelligence, protecting carrier battle groups, defending vital sea lanes, and providing mobile platforms for cruise missiles and SEALs, as well as protecting America from a nuclear strike.
All Naval ships have designation letters and numbers. Submarines are designated by an SS. Nuclear powered submarines also have an N, subs with nuclear missiles have a B, and subs with guided missiles have a G. For example, my first submarine was the USS Maryland, SSBN 738. To find this cache, answer the following questions with the designation number of the submarine.
What was the first commisioned US submarine to be lost?                                  SS-AB
What submarine was the first to sink and have survivors rescued?                     SS-CDE
What submarine caused the "worst maritime disaster in Australia's history?"  SS-FGH
What submarine is credited with blowing up a train?                                              SS-IIJ
Which submarine rescued pilot and future President George Bush?                  SS-KBJ
What submarine has been called "America's most famous WW2 sub?"            SS-LBM
What was the first submarine to have a "teardrop" shaped hull?                          SS-NOD
What was the first nuclear powered submarine?                                                     SSN-PQR
What was the first submarine to travel around the world underwater?                SSRN-STO
What was the first submarine of the "Forty-one For Freedom?"                            SSBN-UDV
Which submarine accidently hit the Japanese ship Ehime Maru in 2001?        SSN-XXY

Just like how pilots earn their wings, submariners earn a warfare device, typically called "dolphins." One of the requirements for this is a knowledge of submarine history and heritage. So now that you have found the cache, you have earned your honorary dolphins! Wear them with pride!
***Congrats to jimp59 for FTF and his 950th find!***
