Geocache Description:

This geocache has been hidden in a nature reserve, which deserves a visit as it is in such a quiet peaceful spot, brimming with wildlife.

You are looking for a medium clip n' lock box in a cammo bag which contains related objects to the reserve such as a green BNR pencil, a spider and a snail with a surprise. There is also a badge for FTF and a trackable geocoin.

Please try to swap items with a similar wildlife theme.

In 1936 the Salesian Monks arrived in Beckford and established a training college. Part of their land was designated  as a  Playing Field for football. This same playground then passed to a quarrying firm who dug out sand and gravel. The site was eventually sold to Beckford village in 2008 who set it up as a Nature Reserve. There are still village folk who remember playing in football teams with the Monks over 60 years ago, right on top of what is now Beckford Nature Reserve.

The reserve is maintained by volunteers from the village who take great pride in owning such a beautiful peaceful spot dedicated to wildlife.

There is a public path along one side and a permissive circular path right round the lake. Two hides are provided, one of which is wheelchair friendly, accessible from the Ashton Road entrance where there is space for a couple of cars.
Look out for all sorts of waterfowl, birds, insects, flowers and creatures.  To see what has been sighted, visit the BNR website which contains the history, map, seasonal highlights, photos and much more about the reserve.

Please respect the nature reserve and observe any cautionary signs, remembering that the public footpath goes alongside a lake. The reserve is open all year long.
