I bumped up the terrain a little due to the daring approach you may want to take. Bring your own pen. Like all caches all in this series, you are looking for a necessity when the power goes out. And like all caches in this series, you can take trails to the cache. My caching friends know my aversion to ticks…keep me on the trails, man. 17 foot accuracy when hidden.
August 27, 2011 Irene hits Virginia. Where was Brother Zeke? In St. Augustine, Florida. We left shortly after the storm hit. Driving up A1A, we saw the ocean eating the shore as we started our travel back to Virginia. It was time for me to get to work!
Hurricane Irene never hit the U.S. as anything stronger than a minimal hurricane. However, the lights went out for more than seven million people and businesses from Folly Beach, S.C., to Portland, Maine. At the time, it ranked as the costliest Category 1 storm on record since at least 1980. It caused an estimated $15.8 billion in total damage.
For Virginia, Irene passed the coast as a moderate-strength Category 1 hurricane, producing 85 mph winds near its center, Saturday between 6 and 8 p.m. In Virginia, Irene affected mostly Tidewater, Central, and Northern VA areas with sustained winds between 30 to 50 mph. Approximately 2.5 million lost power and Irene was blamed for four deaths in Virginia.
