Geocache Description:

Bring your own pen. 19 foot accuracy when hidden. This one is in the woods a bit; check about 30 feet east of the manhole. You may want to park at the Wetlands; see coords. Like all caches all in this series, you are looking for a necessity when the power goes out. If I were you, I would take the trails to the cache. There is one that takes you pretty close.

October 29, 2012 Sandy hits Virginia.  Where was Brother Zeke?  Just hanging out in Richmond.  As far as Sandy goes, this is the most unusual story of a most unusual girl.  Sandy didn’t impact us too much in Richmond, but man she crippled NY and NJ.

Dubbed Superstorm Sandy, the massive storm slammed into the East Coast and morphed into a huge and problematic system, killing over 100 people in the United States. Power outages peaked at 8.5 million.  Sandy merged with an Arctic jet stream, which made it unlike anything seen over the eastern United States in decades.  Wind, rain, floods, snow…what a terrible storm.

While Sandy's winds were not overwhelming for a hurricane, its width was what made it exceptional. Hurricane force winds extended 105 miles from its center while its lesser tropical storm-force winds reached across 700 miles.  Areas most affected were New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and other states in that region.

In Virginia, Sandy affected mostly the Tidewater and Northern VA areas with sustained winds between 30 to 40 mph.  Approximately 150,000 lost power and Sandy was blamed for two deaths in Virginia.  The weather service said Sandy’s storm surges, combined with high tides aided by a full moon on Monday, created coastal water levels and flooding nearly as bad as those created by Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

For us here in the metro Richmond area, what may be remembered most is that the kids got out of school for a couple of days.  Also, the Presidential candidates cancelled visits to the state.
