Kennesaw Mtn Geocache 2 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

mtn-man: Kennesaw will not allow me to put a cache back in the park. They are attempting to keep all visitors on the trails only and are closing all side social trails that have formed and are rerouting the main trail in area.

Thanks to all that found this cache. This cache meant a lot to me and it pains me to archive it. The cache box will re-appear soon in another location.

Geocache Description:

Geocache 2 is an ammo box. It is WELL HID. It is located in the Kennesaw Mtn. National Battlefield Park near Marietta, GA. Maps of the area are available at www.nps.gov/kemo. Bring some water with you, and enjoy the view!

The hike is around 1.3 miles one way and is very steep in places. You can ride to the top (road closed on the weekends except for a bus). You will need to stay on the trail until you are around 50 feet away. It is hidden in some rocks, and you need to go slightly downhill off trail to get to it. There is an old piece of wood covering it. Move the wood to get to the Geocache, and replace it when you are done. There are many hikers through here, so cover it back up well. I hope the patches come out again in the future. If they do I will begin to include them in the cache as a prize for climbing this beautiful mountain. There are two types of postcards that give some history of "The General" train in Kennesaw. Look at my web site for photos of the cache; I recommend the help.

NOTE:

Be good hikers, this is a historical area. Cheatham Hill, Pigeon Hill, Little Kenn. and Kennesaw Mtn. are full of history. Many men died here for their country. The earthen mounds or "Earthworks" are fragile; disturbing them causes irreparable damage. Look... no climbing. The earthwork run the entire length of the mountain and the trail follows them and crosses them. As you visit Kennesaw Mtn Nat'l Battlefield Park, help preserve its earthworks and historic landscape for future generations. ALL buildings, historic objects, geologic specimens, plants, and animals are protected by federal law. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times. My dog (J.C.) is always on his leash when we hike.

I did ask for permission to place this cache, and the nice people at Kennesaw are allowing us to have the cache here. Be good cachers. Keep up the good caching that has been done by the Geocachers that came before you.

As of October 12, 2002 there have been 88 logged visits.
Many thanks to all who have enjoyed discovering the area.
