This is located on some antique equipment, used primarily before the turn of the century, including being used by airplane pilots and cab drivers. This equipment was first designed in 1875. At one time this equipment was found near several towns in North Carolina. It assisted in businesses and commerce, and was once part of everyday life for farmers, dentists, and vegans.
After the turn of the century these have has almost completely disappeared from the landscape, and today is rarely seen in use. It has been replaced by more modern implements. You are looking for the decaying remains of this antique equipment.
