This MML hide is located at the wonderful Trappe Rural Life Museum. The cache is available from dawn to dusk, 7 days a week. The museum requests, no night caching! You are seeking a traditional hide, stocked with a variety of items. If you wish to earn the new MML geocoin, don't forget to record the code word and post a picture at the location with your found log.

The mission of the museum is: We collect, preserve, interpret, and display a broad array of historically significant items, pictures, and documents including many used in rural homes, farms, and industry in the Trappe area. We recognize accomplishments of outstanding individuals such as Nathaniel "Nace" Hopkins, a former slave who served in the Union Army and later started a school for African American children, and J. Franklin "Home Run" Baker, who made it all the way to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

We promote the preservation of historic rural architecture. We plan to study the art, customs, crafts, music, occupations, and methods of transportation of earlier eras and reenact these life styles through cultural events, displays, exhibits, and lectures. As the museum grows, we look forward to including historic demonstrations of homemaking, farming, and industry as they developed over the years.

Trappe lays claim to having produced two Maryland governors within a ten-year period: Samuel Stevens, who served three one-year terms, from 1823 to 1825; and Daniel Martin (1828-1829 and 1830 -1831). Trappe is also the hometown of Baseball Hall of Famer “Home Run” Frank Baker, who played for the Philadelphia Athletics in the 1911 and 1913 World Series’.

In 1867, Nathaniel Hopkins, who was born a slave in Trappe around 1831, founded Emancipation Day in Talbot County, to celebrate Maryland's emancipation of its slaves, which occurred on November 1, 1864. This momentous event marked Maryland as the first slave state to voluntarily free its slaves by popular vote (President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 had only freed slaves in states of rebellion, of which Maryland was not one). After serving the Union army in the Civil War, Hopkins returned to Talbot County to work for the betterment of the newly-free black population in the southern area of the county, including the establishment and construction of Trappe’s first black school in 1878.

Every October 11, Trappe still celebrates Emancipation Day. Festivities include church services, speakers, food, music, and a parade.
