Geocache Description:

The "Damhuis" (literal Dam House) was originally a shed on the farm De Melkbosch that was awarded to C.P. Brand by Governor van de Graaff circa 1785 as reward for services rendered.

The shed with its thick walls and reed roof was used, amongst other, to store fishing boats and nets. The water from a fountain, which exists to this day, formed a dam on the side of the shed hence the name "Damhuis". The present Beach Road is now in the place of the dam.

With the passage of time the "Damhuis" was utilized as a residence and underwent a number of changes up to "Die Damhuis" Restaurant to preserve the historical importance for the future generations.
