Carrigeenamronety Hill with its 401m and splendid views of Ballyhouras, Galties and the Golden Vale is the 825th highest summit of Ireland. The hike is short and straightforward. Recommended for hill walking beginners. Dogs not allowed, even not on lead.
The summit is near the red (Ballyorgan Loop) and the purple (Darragh Hills Loop) national loops, yet you do not need to make either of the loops to climb this hill and find the cache. Use the recommended parking at a forestry entrance (Point A at Mountainviews.ie) that I transformed from the Irish grid format into the usual coords format. Several cars can conveniently park at the entrance. From the parking spot you can follow the red and purple loops but going in the opposite direction up to the referenced trailhead about 200m from the summit, where you obviously need to leave the loops to reach the conglomerate outcrop summit, which will be plainly visible from the trailhead except in very bad weather. The walk is roughly 1km one way, with about 220m elevation change.
Although the terrain rating is 3 according to geocaching.com rating system, the walk has been successfully tested with a 5 year old, and an over 65 years old who even forgot to take her blood pressure medication. Should not be attempted though with kids or infirm companions on a stormy or rainy day, as the trail will get challenging when wet. The last 200m are soaked wet even on a dry day. So you will need some proper hiking boots.
The cache is a regular transparent freezer box under a conglomerate rock outcrop within 5 or so meters of the trigpoint in the terms of the coords, BUT several meters lower, so that it cannot be reached directly from there. It would be in plain sight if you approached from the side where no one would normally approach from. Better use the spoiler pics upfront if you are not experienced in using the arrow to guide you in a rocky terrain. At the trigpoint strong wind is very likely, but the GZ under the trigpoint should be sheltered.
