Bring your own pen. 25 foot accuracy when hidden. Brother Zeke came armed with 4 GPSr’s to get some good coords. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 had dead batteries! Oops. The hint should help. Like all caches all in this series, you are looking for a necessity when the power goes out. And remember this, Brother Zeke does not like to bushwack. But if you want to bushwack, go for it.
June 21, 1972 Agnes hits Virginia. Where was Brother Zeke? I think I was in Wisconsin, visiting my relatives.
For those of you who were in Richmond in June of 1972, you may remember asking yourself the question, “what happened to the ground right where we are?” To be sure, where you are standing now was under water after Agnes came to town…way under water.
The flood waters from Agnes were the highest flood levels recorded in Richmond, topping out at 36.5 feet on June 23, 1972. Hurricane Agnes brought extreme flooding throughout much of the Old Dominion on June 21-22. It ranks as one of Virginia's most destructive and costly floods; an environmental calamity for the state's waterways, particularly the Chesapeake Bay.
Downstream in the downtown area, the floodwall that is currently in place in Richmond is designed to protect Richmond from floods of up to 32 feet. As you may have concluded, the floodwall would have contained all of the floods except Agnes and the historical one noted on the wall down by Bottoms Up Pizza…go check it out.
