As early as 1892, Nikola Tesla created a basic design for radio. In 1896 the first radio transmission was conducted at The Radio Wave Building in Lower Manhattan -Then known as the Gerlach Hotel where Tesla was living. Tesla transmitted radio waves from his laboratory on 5th Avenue to his room here at the hotel where a sensitive radio receiver received the transmission. Tesla patented the radio in 1896. In In 1903, he was awarded patents #723,188 and #725,605. These 2 patents contain the basic principles of the logical AND circuit element basic to all computers today.
A few years later Marconi would patent the radio again and be awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1909 for the radio. In 1935 15 out of 16 of Marconi’s Patent claims on the radio were invalidated by the Court of Claims and Tesla was acknowledged as the prior inventor. But it wasn’t until 1944, a year after Tesla’s death, that the US Supreme Court upheld Tesla’s Patent for Radio.
