[ITA] Per i triestini, il giardino dedicato a Muzio de Tomasini è semplicemente "il" Giardino Pubblico.
[ENG] For Triestine citizens, the garden dedicated to Muzio de Tomasini is simply known as Public Garden.

[ITA] Muzio Giuseppe Spirito de' Tommasini (1794-1879), più noto come Muzio Tommasini ma anche, nella variante tedesca, come Mutius Ritter von Tommasini, è stato un botanico e politico triestino.
Nato da genitori toscani trapiantati a Trieste, studiò giurisprudenza, accostando successivamente alla professione forense la passione per la botanica.
In questa disciplina si occupò soprattutto della flora delle Alpi Giulie, dell'Istria e della Dalmazia, indirizzando i suoi studi in particolare verso le briofite e le spermatofite e partecipando a spedizioni scientifiche. Parallelamente alla sua attività scientifica, ebbe incarichi politici per conto del Governo Austro-Ungarico, ricoprendo gli uffici di preside della magistratura civica e di podestà del Comune di Trieste.
Il giardino pubblico a lui intitolato è quello più centrale della città di Trieste, realizzato tra il 1854 e il 1864. Al suo interno sono collocate le sculture erette in onore dei cittadini illustri nel campo della cultura.

[ENG] Muzio Giuseppe Spirito de' Tommasini (1794-1879), better known as Muzio Tommasini but also in the German variant as Mutius Ritter von Tommasini, has been a Triestine botanic and politician.
Born to a Tuscan family transplanted in Trieste, he studied law, then combining the legal profession with his passion for botany.
In this discipline was particularly interested in the flora of the Julian Alps, of Istria and Dalmatia, directing his studies in particular to Bryophytes and Spermatophytes and participating in scientific expeditions. In parallel to his scientific work, he was apponted to political offices on behalf of the Austro-Hungarian Government, holding the offices of president of the judiciary system and mayor of the Municipality of Trieste.
The public garden dedicated to him is the most central of the city of Trieste, built between 1854 and 1864. Inside the garden you can find a number of sculptures erected in honor of citizens illustrious in the field of culture.
