Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes to walk to the Windy Lookout from either the car park at the Ashhurst end, or the Ballance Road (Woodville) end.
From here, looking down you will see a grassed valley. There was a fire here many years ago which destroyed the bush. During the Rugby World Cup in 2011 a planting day was organised to replant native trees and shrubs. Hundreds of people turned out, and we (Mr and Mrs "Edvern") were present. Most of the planting we did is out of sight however, below the lookout. Other trees and shrubs were planted at the Windmill Lookout. The plantings were part of a nation-wide project associated with the Rugby World Cup. This project in the Manawatu Gorge is dedicated to a local New Zealand rugby legend, Sam Strahan.
The cache is a small screw top plastic container.
