Geocache Description:

This is one of Illinois' original caches placed by "Grampa". It is just off the trail along the historic Illinois & Michigan canal. Hike, bike, jog, spot flora & fauna, or soak in the history of the waterway -- all of this can be done along this trail.

The original cache was muggled in 2009; the replacement container is a clear camo taped large container with blue lid, and has repositioned to a spot not far from the original hiding spot.

Due to some common navigational errors, here are some tips to get to the cache:

- Park at the suggested waypoint and walk north down the small road. Use caution: an occasional tanker truck may roll thru here. Also approach & cross the railroad tracks at the designated crossing.

- You'll see a private property sign for Rowell Chemical, but you won't enter their property. This is also a crossing for the canal trail

- Turn westward, and use the trail branch that runs along the south side of the canal.

- To get to GZ, use the opening in the embankment (waypoint IM417); it'll save you a climb.

- Hike this faint trail to the cache. FYI: You'll actually pass by the original hiding spot for this cache - if you look around you'll probably notice it.

Enjoy your hike & thanks for visiting.
