Coming Home??? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Trail Reader: After the last note, I decided to swing by here and check things out. The access gate from Salinas Ave. was gone, so I had to hike in from the rec trail. Although GZ was still there, I was unable to locate the container. However, with large scale construction vehicles a stone's throw away, I would have been retrieving it anyway. Since my son has been home for ten years now, I guess the cache's question has been answered! Thanks to all who visited!! Archived.

Geocache Description:

Will he, or won't he? Only time will tell...

My son has been living in Paraguay since September 2007. He originally left the United States to become a Peace Corps volunteer. After his initial two years of service, he signed on for a third year, and then a fourth.

In 2012, he began a nine-month stint working for Paraguay's National Ministry of Tourism and the Environment as a landscape architect, the same position he had held as a fourth-year PCV. However, as the year comes to a close, my son has once again found his way back to the Peace Corps, working in a short-term assignment as a Technical Trainer for the incoming group of Environmental Education PCVs.

Over the years, I have documented my son's time in Paraguay with a number of caches:

"P" Is For Paraguay (GC19FYJ)
One of the Guays... (GC19YDJ)
Caacupe, Paraguay (GC20GFW)
Do You Know The Way To Paraguay? (GC20J6M)
Three Years and Counting... (GC2FGHR)
My Son's Second Tongue (GC2Q9GF)
I Shook the Hand of the Man... (GC2WQXM)

Although I am extremely proud of his Peace Corps service, with his trainer position ending on December 14, 2012, I have my fingers crossed that he will decide to finally head home.

The container is a camo'd cylinder with a log, hidden just a short walk away from the main trail/path.

Parking is available on Salinas Avenue or near the drought-tolerant garden on Reservation Road.

NOTE: On December 28, 2012, my son returned home, jet-lagged and definitely suffering from culture shock. Although he had just been granted legal residency in Paraguay, he plans to devote the next six months to locating a job here before even considering a return to South America. Again, we'll see...
