Geocache Description:

Placed as part of a series that will set out to highlight some of the little known record worthy achievements of the Fine City Of Norwic. This is a magnetic Micro. that is well hidden

I am no football fan but I realise that any series about Norwich fame will have to include the football team. So here are a few interesting little known facts about N.C.F.C, That were correct when I set this cache.
  1. Norwich City Football Club was formed at the Criteron Cafe in White lion Street on 17th June 1902 as an amateur team. It's first competitive game was in the Norfolk and Suffolk League against Harwich & Paterson in the September of that year at their site on Newmarket Road. They moved here to The Nest in 1905.
  2. They went into vountery liquidation in 1917 and reformed in February 1919.
  3. On 31st August 1935 they flew the nest as they had out grown it and moved to Carrow Road.
  4. In 1992 N.C.F.C. were one of the foundermembers of the Premiership.
  5. in 1992 They achieved notariaty when they beat Bayern Munich at the Olimpic Stadium in the UEFA cup. To date Norwich is the only British team to have done this
  6. The fans song "On the ball City" is thought to be the oldest football song in the world
  7. The club's original nickname was the Citizens,( or Cit's for short) and played in light blue and white halved shirts although the halves were inconsistent; "the blue was sometimes on the left hand side of the shirt and sometimes on the right.". The earliest known recorded link between the club and canaries, comes in an interview recorded in the Eastern Daily Press with newly appointed manager, John Bowman,  in April 1905. The paper quotes him saying "Well I knew of the City's existence... I have... heard of the canaries."This as far as we can tell is the first time that the popular pastime of the day ie... rearing... canaries was linked with Norwich City FC. By 1907 the more familiar Canaries was confirmed by the clubs top scorer the previous season Graham Canary. But the City of Norwich had long connections with canaries owing to its 15th and 16th century links to Flemish weavers who had imported the birds to the Low Countries from the Dutch colonies in the Caribbean.
