Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in memory of my Dad, John Szostak, who passed away Oct. 2, 2012. He was born November 27, 1928 and grew up in Cedoux. My grandparents, pioneers in the area, ran the general store. It was situated on this corner, right across from the railway station and in the middle of a bustling town. My grandfather also served as postmaster from 1921 to 1927.

I can imagine my Dad as a little boy, playing in this area, during the Dirty Thirties.

Like many small prairie towns, Cedoux once boasted a hotel, general store, lumber yard, butcher shop, restaurant, farm implement dealer, curling rink, blacksmith and three grain elevators. Now there are no commercial buildings left in the town. The elevators and railway station have disappeared, many of the old buildings have been demolished, and the store that my grandfather built has been hauled away to be used as a butcher shop on a local farm. One of the only original buildings still standing is the old blacksmith shop on the northwest corner of town.

You can learn more about the history of Cedoux, or watch a video tour of the town.

Please replace this cache exactly where you found it. Bring your own writing implement.
