5th Annual Indiana Dunes Geocache Adventure: A Spot of Soup!

Where: Indiana Dunes State Park, Chesterton, IN
Bust out of the cabin fever and join us for the first DNR Geocaching Event of 2013! The Indiana Dunes and her winter beauty
will be showcased this weekend, a time few people get out to enjoy! Indiana Dunes State Park offers many amenities for all to enjoy. The last three years we've been blessed with both -18 degree temperatures and over 25 inches of snow. Prepare for anything! While the event is free, standard gate fees are $5 in-state, $10 out of state visitors. Winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing, camping, hiking, snowshoeing, birding, a full service Nature Center, and of course geocaching! Annual Entrance passes are available as well. These get you into every Indiana State Park and Reservoir until Dec 31, 2014. Arrival time starts at 11:30am with registration and social time at the Nature Center (posted coordinates). The event's namesake takes place at 12pm and is followed by a chili dump dinner at 4:30pm. Cachers are invited to donate prizes anytime, should they wish to contribute.
Chili Dump
As always, bring your favorite chili dish to dump into the kettle. We'll slow heat it all day over an open fire for dinner later. The last four year's chili was delicious after a cold day in the field! Coffee and hot chocolate will be available in the Nature Center all day to warm you up. Bring any other drinks you may want. The room is set aside for geocachers all day.
A Spot of Soup!
Explore the wonder and beauty of the dunes area this afternoon. Your goal is to race through the community testing out a spot (or shot!) of soup from our various tastes of duneland. Get your passport stamped along the way and take part in special challenges (i.e. make the world's biggest snowball, make your own dogsled, shovel a strangers walk!) Prizes for those that complete the most!
