A short uphill walk from Stowe Village to get a nice view of town.
Sunset Rock is a viewpoint above Stowe Village which can be reached by a 15 minute walk from downtown. The walk is on a trail which switchbacks steeply uphill from the end of Sunset Street, soon arriving at the top of some steep ledges and a view of Main Street. This was one of the first properties conserved by the Stowe Land Trust. I was recently on a hike through the property with the land trust, and we were told that few tourists bother to take this short hike to the scenic view. But by the time you've done some shopping and eating downtown, perhaps you'd like some exercise. Park in any legal spot downtown, then walk to the trailhead at the end of Sunset St. Sorry, no parking is allowed in the last block of Sunset St. Most of you will want to take the trail which zigzags up the slope; I know of only one person who would probably insist on following the arrow directly from the end of the road. The cache is a small container, big enough for only a log sheet and small trade items. Please BYOP, and enjoy the view. If you go near the edge, please watch the kids and pets. The cache is away from the main trail and back from the edge a safe distance.
