A quick grab & go near Namur, WI, named after the homeland of the Belgian immigrants who settled here around the 1850s. The European Namur is a city and municipality in Wallonia in southern Belgium that over the years was part of, or controlled by the Romans, the Spanish Netherlands, the French, the Dutch, the Austrians, the Germans and finally the Belgians. Our Namur has always been part of the State of Wisconsin, but is now also part of a National Historic District.
If you drive a quarter mile west you will find a state historical marker that will tell you more about the Belgian Settlement in the area.
