After the Nationalists came to Taiwan, the building served for a time as the ruling KMT's Hsinchu chapter office before it was turned into the city's North District Household Registration Office. It is currently under renovation. Rated as a city level historic relic in 2001, the 81-year-old Hsinchu State City Affair Office has remerged as Hsinchu City Art Gallery &Reclamation Hall after an overhaul innovation work in January, 2005. In addition to enriching culture heritage by bringing alive the glory of ancient-old architecture, Hsinchu City Art Gallery & Reclamation Hall also provide an additional tourist attraction and leisure site for the citizens.
