7. View of an ecosystem
This pond is fed by springs as well as ground water runoff, it serves as a home for many wildlife such as Great Blue and Green herons, different kinds of ducks, beavers, many kinds of birds, fish, frogs, deer and fox, Just to name a few. It is also home to a few beaver and muskrat. Take a look and you can see the beaver lodges which are wide and formed with sticks and mud. There are also tall and thinner muskrat houses which are constructed of bulrushes, weeds and packed mud, with separate sleeping platforms for each member of the family.
Water in the pond is filtered by the cattails and other plants, absorbing pollutants, before it heads out to the lake. This is just one of many that can be found all around Lake Simcoe that ensure our lake stays in balance so we can swim, fish and enjoy it for a lifetime.
