Geocache Description:

The tree killers chopped off my snails head :(I chose this location for my first cache because I drive by here almost everyday and from the road the log and rock together look like a snail.
The cache is a camo plastic container with peace sign on lid.
There is a Timmies card for the first to find.

I love snails. I look for snails everywhere I go and have had many snail friends. Snails are very fascinating. Snails are the earliest known animal. Snails have been around for 600 million years. There are many snails all over the world. The only thing that out numbers snails are insects. Snails are considered mullosks because they have shells. There are two types of snails. Land snails and water snails. The largest land snail weighed 2 pounds and was 15 inches long. The largest water snail weighed 40 pounds and was 35 inches long. The trail of slime snails leave behind as they move is to prevent them from being hurt as they move. Snails can't hear so they rely on touch to communicate. They use their sense of smell to find food. They usually eat at night or early morning. Land snails eat decaying vegetation, fungi, lichen, plant leaves, damp paper and cardboard. Water snails eat algea and fish. Snails bodies can not process salt or sugar and will die if you feed them this. The average lifespan of a snail is 15 years though some species have been known to live up to 25 years.. Snails are very strong and can lift up to 10 times their own body weight. Garden snails are the fastest snail and they can move about 55 yards per hour. There is a misconception about snails. Some people believe snails carry a bacteria which will make humans ill when they touch them. The only time a human can become ill because of a snail is if they eat one that has not been cooked properly
