Geocache Description:

A small plastic box taped black.  Log book inside with some swag.  Can hold small trackables as well.  It is a dirt road in farming area.  Safe to park on this quiet road.
As you drive down this road it will turn to the left. On the curve you can see the ruins of the Lincoln Trading Post. A low rock wall is all that is left.

This area was once called Wigwam. Longtime locals say the area derived its name from the many tepees that formed a Ute camping ground at this place along Fountain Creek.

In the 1860s, there was a general store known as the Lincoln Trading Post on the stage coach road south of Fountain. Guns were reportedly left there by government scouts to use in case of Indian attack, and they were used to prevent a stage coach hold-up.

Also in this area was the Wigwam school. Built in 1921, Wigwam School served the children south of Fountain for only 40 years. The school building was reduced to storage space due to realignment of district boundaries when the Wigwam-area children were sent east to the Hanover School District. Hanover had hoped to open the school again but the landowner had the building torn down before that could happen.
