Geocache Description:

The Camp Murphy Ruins (CMR) series will take you to what is left of the army camp that was located here in WW2.

This cache was placed for Cachepalooza 7. Cache placement has been approved by Martin Morse, park service specialist.

Obey all speed limits. Do not block gates. All wheels off the pavement. Do not cross the railroad tracks except at the main park road or the US 1 bridge.

In this area are several concrete foundations from Camp Murphy.

The large foundation north of the cache was the camp's movie theater. Immediately south of the cache is the foundation of the camp's recreation hall. The camp also had a bowling alley.

Other Camp Murphy buildings in this area were the cafeteria and north chapel.

Despite the secrecy of their training, men stationed at Camp Murphy were granted leave off base. They were frequent visitors to nearby Hobe Sound and Jupiter and enjoyed the nearby beaches.

Much thanks to Barry Richardson, JDSP Park Ranger & Archeological Resources Monitor for information about Camp Murphy.
