Geocache Description:

The cache container at the final GZ is a small round plastic container, and the different stages will lead you to places which most people miss. There is history, a shoreline and a beach involved, as well as maritime, political and religious aspects to it – not too much of each, just a good mix. Take your time at the different stages as not to miss anything interesting.

At each of the prescribed locations (coordinates for each are found in the "Additional Waypoints" section) you will collect information which will assist you in calculating the final coordinates. Take your time - I created this cache as a multi on purpose so that you get to see a lot that you would perhaps miss otherwise. Almost each stage invites you to explore and wander around. BONUS: At the final stage, you will be able to explore some sea caves. Best to do not at high tide and in dry weather (avoid the brown and green algae on the rocks, very slippy!).

It is recommended to do this multi by some kind of transport. Tip: If you are coming from the north / Cliffs of Moher, you can do stages 3 and 4 first, it saves you going back to this spot.

Going for the cache only without any sightseeing should take less than an hour by car. Note: the given coordinates are for Stage 1.

STAGE 1 L1:  Catherine buried her husband John in this spot a while ago. Take the four-digit year and substract 1862 from it. This is figure A of the final coordinates. While you’re here, take a look at the interesting architecture of the church, and the unusual tombs or tomb houses in the graveyard. You can also take a walk on the beach.

STAGE 2 L2: N 52° 56.277' W 009° 23.262': How many ladders are in this man-built structure (count them on all sides including those at the sea-side entrance)? Just iron ladders, not jacob's ladders, not concrete steps. Add the amount to the figure 955. This will substitute the letter B in the coords.

STAGE 3 L3: N 52° 57.125' W 009° 25.338': Park the car on the side road to the left to find this and the next one. To find C, count ALL the vertical bars of the iron gate that leads from the road into the enclosure and add it to the figure 18. - Stick your head into the grotto, it is worth it!

STAGE 4 L4: N 52° 57.108' W 009° 25.370' On the plaque, some figures are mentioned. Take the four-digit year and substract 1618 from it to get D. Two interesting facts: This monument hosts the remains of the man mentioned on the plaque. And the engraved year is a stonemason’s equivalent to a typo - it should have been 1857.

FINAL CACHE L5: In the coords below, substitute the letters with the figures you have found along the way. The cache is a round clip-cover container. It is hidden about knee-high in the little rock cliff, down from the grass. Pls replace the stones as you find them so that it won't be muggled. Please bring a byro/pencil! Final coordinates: N 52° (A) (B)' W 009° (C) (D)'

This cache is part of the Holy Well series which is open to everyone; if you know a holy well you would like to place a cache at then please contact Burrentracker through Geocaching.com. This is to keep track of the numbers of the holy wells and give you the general format for the cache page. If you currently have a published cache at a holy well that you would like to include in the series, get in contact with me, Burrentracker, and I can add it to the list.
