Geocache Description:

Like nearby Islands "A" and "B", Island"C" was formed when the rising waters of Lake Karapiro surrounded this minor ridge in 1947 with the completion of the Karapiro power station.  The island is bush covered and is an attractive location for adventure group camp-outs and seasonal duck shooters. The later in particular have left their mark with various items of junk scattered near the major maimai here.
Every May, hundreds of shotgun cartridges float down the river from here and other shooting hides upstream. For those shooters out there: Plastic catridge shells FLOAT !
Please practice CITO when on the lake, to enhance the environment.

Easiest landing is on eastern side, with an easy stroll to the cache. The island is a popular, safe nesting area for various birdlife, so watch your step.
The sheltered stretch between the Island west side and the mainland contains a little used slalom course for water sports. Take care on that side if there are skiers about.
