Geocache Description:

Amalfi is the place where Flavio Gioia, who invented the compass in 1302, was born. There's a nice little museum just a few meters from the harbor.

Before the invention of the compass, ship captains could only navigate by the sun and the stars, none of which were visible in foul weather. The compass allowed the Amalfi Republic - which lasted almost three centuries - to expand its commerce beyond the limits of the known world.

This cache has been placed for a German TV crew, who wanted to make a documentary about the compass and included Geocaching. There's been a navigation "challenge" to find this cache, between one guy using a GPS and another one using a map and a compass.. it was a tie.

For  the FTF: you'll find two signatures in the log, consider them beta tester. They've find the cache whil being recorded for the TV, before the cache became official.
