Boothill Graveyard, located in Tombstone, Arizona, is the final resting spot for over 250 people. Buried there are children, housewives, painted ladies, outlaws, gamblers, miners, business men and women, blacksmiths, cowboys and those “who died with their boots on”. Many of them are unknown. Most of the occupants died in the early 1880’s.

This cache is part of a Geoart series that is dedicated to the people who are buried in Boothill Graveyard. There are 188 people buried for whom at least some information is known. There is a cache for each of them. There is also a puzzle cache dedicated to the more than 70 people for whom there is no information known.

This cache is dedicated to Thos. Harper, who was hanged in 1881 for shooting Talliday in a quarrel over money. The evening before he was hanged, Harper wrote a long letter to his friend Curly Bill, admonishing him never to be provoked into shooting a man. "I shot a man," he wrote, "and after tomorrow I will be no more." He was hanged in the old jail house yard. His actual grave site has not been identified.

The cache container is a small piece of painted PVC pipe, capped on both ends. Please be sure to put the cap back on, but do not push it on too far as this can make it difficult to remove. Bring a writing instrument as none is provided. Containers are hidden at the base of a bush. Please rehide them carefully.

This is a hiking series. I expect that all finders will have personally signed the log or at least been present when it was signed on their behalf. The terrain is level. The vegetation ranges from thick to thin, and from benign to thorny. The good news is that I did not see any catclaw. There is also the normal list of Arizona critters out and about, so be careful out there.

The best approach is off of Arizona 82 at N31 41.821 W110 18.285. The road should be passable by all vehicles unless it has rained recently.

The entire Geoart is located on Arizona State Trust Land. A valid ASTL Recreation Permit is required for access. According to ASTL rules, vehicles must stay on existing roads.

After completing your caching day, be sure to visit Boothill Graveyard which is located about 13 miles away in Tombstone. There is no charge to visit it. Also worth a visit is the Fairbank Historic Townsite, which is on your way to Tombstone.
