This started life as a " good to talk " cache sited in the telephone box near the Town Hall , but when I tried to get it listed I was told that BT has forbidden the placing of caches on its property! So I've resited this one close to its original home by the Town Hall . It's a busy area so you will need to be extra stealthy at times. The cache is a magnetic micro and you will need your own pen. The Town Hall , which was opened on 1st June 1853 , sits on Lord Street , Southport with its pavement cafes and gardens.
It's a little known fact that Prince Louis Napoleon (Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte) lived on Lord Street from May 1846 before becoming Emperor of France in 1851.
Just a year later, no doubt inspired by his stay in the town, he set his Prefect of the Seine, Baron George Haussman, to work redesigning the city of Paris.
Much of the medieval centre of Paris was replaced with broad tree-lined boulevards, covered walkways and arcades, just like Lord Street.
This is a high muggle area so some stealth is required.
There are regular bus and train services to Southport from Liverpool, Manchester and Preston and the train station is within easy walking distance of this cache. Many bus services stop on Lord Street just yards from the cache location. Car parking is pay and display on Lord Street and the side streets. There is free car parking available at the Sainsbury's supermarket for up to 90 minutes provided that you purchase goods in the store. Do not overstay your time though , a neighbour recently had to pay a £50 fine because she thought that she had 2 hours of free parking having spent a fair bit in the store !
