Geocache Description:

A quick (magnetic) cache or the start of a stroll around the old walled town of Kilmallock.

King John’s castle is a 15th century ‘Peel’ tower in the ancient walled town of Kilmallock. The arch at basement level, which is open to walk through, was the north “gate” of the town. Blossom gate is the corresponding gate on the south side and is on the R515 road to Charleville. The town also has ruins of a Dominican friary (1291 a.d.) and the Collegiate church on a site that has had a church from 1251. You can park at the side of the street for a quick cache as the first half hour is free. For a longer stroll around the town, park in the public car park, which is on the right turn immediately past the castle, if you come from the Limerick direction.
