A multi-cache/puzzle with local history, beginning in the "Moran Section," as it is known, of the Mount Zion Cemetery. Please do be mindful this is a cemetery and a hallowed place to be treated with respect. The walk is pretty easy, and it would be fine for kids. The cemetery sees a fair amount of traffic, by way of visiting family members, throughout the week. Bring your own pen for the first stage.
**PLEASE - put things back like you found them, including at the first stage, so that muggles, who pass by very frequently, will not see anything!**
The Mount Zion area, once also called "Catawba," is a beautiful area where my dad, grandma, great-grandparents, and their parents grew up. And I have many happy childhood memories of it.
The cache is a bit of a puzzle, based on a brief history lesson and a little arithmetic. (Very little, 'cuz I'm not good enough at math to make it hard!)
The starting coordinates are Dad's grave. You'll know it when you see because you've probably never seen another one like it. He and I designed it together shortly before he passed away. He would have loved geocaching, and I know he would approve. Pay your respects, if you will.
Within 15' or so of your starting point you will find hidden a set of clues, an initial log, scratch paper for those of you math-challenged folks like myself, and all the information you need to help you calculate the final cache cords. It won't be hard to find Stage One; you can have a seat and rest while you look. ;)
The ultimate location will require a small amount of bush-whacking. You're looking for a camo lock-n-lock, about 4"x7".
Take a moment, if you will; sit down, look around you, enjoy the beauty of the area, and learning a little bit about a quaint, historic spot in Marion County.
