The village of Batesford developed around a fording place in the Moorabool River in the late 1830's and became a popular stopping off place on the route to the goldfields in the 1850's. Over time the valley saw a flourishing vineyard industry develop but it was wiped out by the vine disease phylloxera in the late 1800s.
Market gardening took over and for many years the valley grew vegetables for the Geelong and Melbourne markets.
The cache is in the road reserve, there is no need to cross fencelines. The homeowner opposite who is a former market gardener and is also my father in law is aware of the cache and enjoys caching along with the family.
Whist in the area have a look at the lovely old stone bridge dating from 1859 on the main road to the west.
Cache should be an easy although unusual find.
