Introducing Louie and his Loop
Louie is a reasonably new addition to the family. He is a black and white sprollie (springer spaniel and collie cross) and, at the time of writing this, he is around 14 months old. He has amazing energy levels and loves a good run in the mountains.
So with Louie comes "Louie's Loop". The whole loop is roughly an 8 km walk off the main tracks in the Ticknock/Three Rock area. You can, if you like, make it a lot longer.
This is the sixth cache in the series and is placed along a route popular with walkers. Please rehide it well.
We found it difficult to get accurate coordinates and have increased the difficulty level accordingly.
How to get there.
The starting and finishing point of Louie's Loop is Ticknock Car Park. There are many other access points to the area, but this is the car park we usually use.
Approaching along Harold's Grange Road, turn up Ticknock Road. After about 1 km turn left into the forest, where you will find ample parking. Please remember to take a note of the closing times which are displayed as you enter the forest.
The area
Ticknock Recreational Site offers mountain and forest walks with many spectacular views of Dublin and Wicklow. The area is very popular with walkers and mountain bikers. You may also see deer, and the odd horse out for a trek.
The main walking paths are of moderate difficulty and easily accessible for children and people with lower levels of fitness. We are, however, planning to place some caches off the beaten track, so please prepare accordingly. Some of these trails can get very wet, mucky and slippery especially after rain and snow.
The area is maintained and managed by Coillte and the cache is placed in line with the "Leave no Trace" principle.
