Geocache Description:

This geocache has been placed with the kind permission of the RSPB. This cache has been placed on the Red trail route, which is a well defined trail, and is 3rd of 11 along the route. It is a continuous and steady and sometimes strenuous climb all the way to the top from where you will have stunning views down onto the lake and across the hills, moorlands and forests of this beautiful reserve at Lake Vrynwy.

Please note that Mobile Phone coverage is very poor in this area so you are advised to download the required information prior to your visit to allow for access when offline.

The trail is a 10Km walk if walked as a circular route (4Km along the road back to the car) please allow 3-4 hours to complete this series.

As the permission to place caches around the reserve is currently restricted to the RSPB trails that they have been placed on be prepared for the long walk back to your car along the road after you have found the last cache. The estimated distance from the recommended car park and back again is approximately 10 kilometres. However if you don't have the time or energy to do the entire series in one go there is a shorter route of approx 4.5 km if you stop caching and return to the car park after cache #5 Redpoll.

Cache contains a log, pencil, and a few small items of swag. Container is suitable for travel bugs or coins and larger items of swag.

Goshawk - for bird watchers presents a problem as it is easy to confuse with the smaller male with a female sparrow hawk. The goshawk has a shorter tail with a rounded (not square) end, longer broader wings with a more 'S' shaped rear edge, bulkier size and slower wing beats. Female is much bigger than the male and approaching the size of a buzzard. Upper parts are dark brown, under parts whitish, closely barred brown. These birds have been seen here, so if you are lucky you may get to see one.

Due to the nature of the work undertaken by the RSPB it may at times become necessary to temporarily disable this cache and we ask that you respect our decision to do this.

Co-ordinates tricky here due to dense tree coverage.
