Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the RSPB. It is number 7 of 11 caches along the Red Trail. It is a continuous steady and sometimes strenuous climb all the way to the top from where you will have stunning views down onto the lake and across the hills, moorlands and forests of this beautiful reserve. Hiking boots are essential.

Please note that Mobile Phone coverage is very poor in this area so you are advised to download the required information prior to your visit to allow for access when offline.

Follow the red trail up to a T junction. This area of the route is barren, it has great views of the surrounding hills but the weather conditions will be colder than below as you are exposed to the elements and rapidly changing weather. Please be sensible and dress appropriately.

The Goldcrest is Britain's smallest bird weighing only as much as a 10p coin. It has lively actions, hovering or fly catching flickering wings while carefully searching the tiniest twigs and pine needles. The restless and confiding goldcrest keeps in constant touch by means of its thin high call note. It has a pale green above and off white below with a short neck and proportionately large head gives a compact, rounded impression and dark peppercorn eye looking large in otherwise pale bland face. Crown stripe is yellow with bordered black at the sides.

The cache contains a log book, and a few small swag items. The container is suitable for travel bugs and coins.

Due to the nature of the work undertaken by the RSPB and the forestry commission it may at times become necessary to temporarily disable this cache and we ask that you respect this decision.
